Aisha Buhari Vows To Sustain Girl Child Education Advocacy In Nigeria

The wife of Nigerian President, Aisha Buhari has assured that she will continue to remain an advocate for quality education for the nation's gilded child.

Aisha Buhari who spoke on "Education and The Girl Child In Northern Nigeria" insisted that the issue of girl child education was very close to her heart, decried that the issues is more disturbing in the northern part of the country.

Represented by wife of Kaduna State Governor, Hajiya Hadiza Nasir Elrufai at the ongoing Catholic women gathering (Zumunta Mata) in Malunfashi, Katsina State, Aisha Buhari stressed that girl child education is not given the needed attention in the north for several reasons.

Prominent amongst such reasons according to wife of the President include, the obnoxious believe that the girl child would get married after education and will only be useful to her husband, hence her parents would not benefit from any investments made on her.

Aisha Buhari however noted that the reverse is now the case as recent happenings shows that these women that are privileged to be educated now assist not only their parents, and children utilization even the society at large.

Speaking earlier, Governor Aminu Bello Masari warned parents especially those in north against marrying off their girl child without allowing them get education.

The governor who represented by Commissioner for Health,  Hajiya Mariyatu Bala Usman noted that no nation can develop without placing education amongst it's top priorities.

On his part, Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Dioceses, comprising, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara and Katsina States, Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah noted that women in Nigeria face more challenges as they are relegated to the background.

Bishop Kukah therefore advised that patents, especially those in the north should give equal priority to the education of their children irrespective of the gender.
