Ministries & Organizations in the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto

As Jesus reminds us that he is the vine and we are the branches, and it is the branches through which nourishment enlivens the vine, so it is with church ministries and organizations. There are many lay ministries and organizations by which our Diocese is enriched – some of which require occasional participation, and others which entail regular service. One does not become a parishioner simply by attending Sunday Mass. Your involvement in one of these ministries and organizations will not only enrich your life, but it will also vitalize the communion of faith we enjoy in the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto.

Liturgical Commission:

Altar Dressers

Diocesan Choir

Lectors: “Christ is present in the liturgy through the Eucharist, the priest, and the assembly that prays and sings. He is also present in the Word since it is He Himself who speaks when the holy Scriptures are read in the Church” (Catechism, 1088, see also SC 7 and Mt. 18:20). Proclaiming the word of God is much more complex than simply standing in front of the assembly and reading a text. It involves the proper understanding and appreciation of scripture, careful preparation, the use of the voice, and attention to acoustics and liturgical movement.

Altar Servers: Composed of children and young people who assist priests in the service of the altar during the celebration of Mass. They serve regularly at Sunday and weekly Masses and other special liturgies.

Social Outreach:

St. Vincent de Paul Society

The Society is concerned not only with relieving need but also with addressing the situations that cause it. It serves persons in need regardless of creed, opinion, color, cast or origin.
