Justice, Development and Peace Commission
The Church's structural response to Vatican II's call for engagement in society — serving all people across Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara and Katsina.
A society where God's kingdom is enthroned for human development.
To promote peace and justice for human development through advocacy, mobilisation, empowerment and capacity building in our target communities.
JDPC Sokoto covers the whole diocese — four states in North-West Nigeria with 24 parishes, over 50 outstations and programme offices in every state. It is part of the national network of JDPCs in the Catholic dioceses of Nigeria, coordinated by the Catholic Secretariat in Abuja.
Recent work includes the Feed the Future Nigeria Livelihoods Project with Catholic Relief Services (nutrition and WASH), mobilising 1,050 volunteers to observe the 2015 elections across the four states, and collaboration with the Yar'Adua Centre and CAFOD on election observation.
The commission has 11 full-time staff, 4 part-time staff and 987 volunteers across Kebbi, Zamfara, Katsina and Sokoto States.
