2017 Marian Year Celebration in Sokoto Diocese

The Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) in the 2016 Plenary Session declared 2017 Marian Year for the Church in Nigeria.

The celebration is to mark the centenary of Mary’s apparition to the Three Shepherd children of Fatima in Portugal 1917. 

The celebrations will afford the faithful the opportunity to be close to Christ through Mary His Mother. Whenever we find Mary we always find Christ. Therefore Mary is a sure way to Christ. In addition to the many spiritual blessings that God is going to bestow on you and your family this year, it also affords all of us the opportunity to learn more about Mary. 

The Catholic Diocese of Sokoto Schedules the Celebration as follows:

• Inauguration at Diocesan Level -- April 28th, 2017
• Marian Year Program at Parish Level -- May 13th, 2017 (Our Lady of Apparition)
• Deanery Program -- August 15th, 2017 (Assumption of Mary)
• Diocesan program for Marian Year -- September 8th, 2017 (Birthday of our Lady)
