Speaking during a 3-day Small Business Summit organized by Selah Bethani Foundation in collaboration with Justice Development and Peace Caritas (JDPC) held at St. Bakhita Secretariat, Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Bishop Mathew Kukah decried the attitude of Nigerians refusing to invest in their country.

“Nowhere in the world, even within animals; it is not possible that a hyena kills a little goat and takes it to the den of lion for safe keeping. Here is a country where the thieves are stealing and don’t have the scientific capacity to deal with it. If not, how would they be stealing and taking the money to Germany, Dubai and the host of other countries to invest?” The Bishop queried.

Bishop Kukah said of the many countries he has visited, he has never seen a country where people are so obsessed with religion like Nigeria. he lamented about the use of religion as a tool for not only committing but also justifying criminal acts in Nigeria.

Bishop Kukah emphasized that Nigerians must have a change of heart for good. He cautioned that should the country continue on this pedestal, it will get to a point where there will be no Nigeria to talk or live in, either as Christians or Muslims.

To the younger generation, Bishop Kukah urged the youths to liberate themselves through genuine love for one another. He said, “Nigerians have become hostages: Where we are now, we need to take our liberation in our hands"
