The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Mathew Hassan Kukah calls on Nigerians to invest in their country, while he urged the government to create the necessary and enabling infrastructure which will in turn change things for good in the country.

Gidan Mai Kanbu held her first Inter-faith Service

Gidan Mai kanbu held her first inter-faith service between Christians and Muslims of Kafur and Bakori Local Governments. The Chairman of all Imams in Katsina State who is from Bakori Local Government preached from the Muslim Faith while Rev Fr Patrick Etuk MSP preached from the Christian Faith. Both homilies were simply edifying.

Most Rev Matthew Kukah, Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Sokoto who was represented at the event, in his address commended the community on the initiative of interfaith prayer meeting.

Rev Fr Lawrence Agu retires from active service

Rev Fr Lawrence Agu, a Dominican Priest working in the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto has retired from active service. His retirement was celebrated with Holy Mass presided by His Lordship Most Rev Dr Matthew Hassan Kukah, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto.

In his homily, Bishop Kukah appreciated Fr. Lawrence for his commitment & diligence to service throughout his pastoral years in the Diocese of Sokoto.

Until his retirement, Fr. Lawrence served as the Parish Priest of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Gusau.

39 graduates from Catechetics course

A group of 30 parishioners from the Diocese of Catholic Diocese of Sokoto have graduated from a two-year catechetics course.

The event which held today 3rd December, 2016 at School of Catechetical Studies Malumfashi witnessed Parishioners from different part of the Diocese and the celebration was presided by Bishop of Kano Diocese, Most Rev. John Nyirin Namaza OSA.

Bishop Kukah dedicates St. Thomas' Chaplaincy of Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda

The newly built St. Thomas' Chaplaincy of Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda was filled to capacity on the occasion of its formal opening and dedication by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Most Rev. Dr. Mathew H Kukah.

The event which took place on the first Sunday of Advent 2016 attracted not only Christians but non-Christians in the host community and beyond.

To grace the event, Candidates who have completed their RCIA programme were administered the sacrament of Confirmation while some Lectors were installed.

”Make Christ your universal king”- Bishop Kukah

The Bishop, Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Most. Revd. (Dr.) Matthew Kukah has urged Nigerians at all levels to allow God be the universal king of their lives.

The revered cleric stated this during the celebration of Christ the King on Sunday at the Holy Family Catholic Cathedral, Sokoto. Kukah who attributed the numerous challenges facing today’s Christians stressed, “Irrespective of your diverse background or religious affiliations within Nigeria as a larger society, we should make Christ the king of our lives.

Catholic Diocese of Sokoto marked the conclusion of Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy

Catholic Diocese of Sokoto marked the conclusion of Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy with Thanksgiving Mass in Holy Family Cathedral on Nov 11th. The Jubilee Year of Mercy was concluded at all Deaneries in the Diocese on Oct 28th. The Diocesan conclusion of Jubilee Year Mass was celebrated ahead of the formal conclusion of the Jubilee Year of Mercy which will be led by Pope Francis in the celebration of a special Mass of Thanksgiving in Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome on Sunday 20 November, the Feast of Christ the King.

Sokoto Diocese distributed 50 motorcycles to her Catechists.

The Catholic Diocese of Sokoto today distributed 50 motorcycles to her Catechists to aid in rural evangelization.

During the presentation at Malumfashi Deanery, The Vicar General Administration, Very Rev. Fr. Nuhu Iliya representing the Bishop, Most. Rev. Dr. Mathew H Kukah expressed gratitude to all the Catechists for their commitments in services to the church and humanity. He urged them to use the motorcycles in evangelizing and winning souls for the Kingdom of God..
