BISHOP KUKAH COLLECTS PVC

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Most Rev. Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah in the early hours of  today (Tuesday – 15th January, 2019) paid an august visit to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) office in Mabera,  Sokoto South Local Government Area,  Sokoto  State for the collection of his Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC).

Speaking with a cross section of reporters the clergy man was of the view that no one in a society like ours can desire a good and better society without taking the pains and troubles to access his/her PVC. He continues “… it is very important and a fundamental duty of every citizen. Whether you are happy with Nigeria or unhappy, this is the only opportunity you have to remove your sadness, this is the only time you have to remove your sadness or hold your happiness by voting for people that can better our affairs….”

The resident electoral commissioner of the State Sadiq Abubakar Musa however expressed satisfaction with the Bishop’s visit, adding that normally people of such status would want to sit at home and wait for us to get their cards across to them but because His Lordship is a man close to the people he is here today…. He said that “if Bishop Kukah can come here, then every other person in Sokoto should do same. Responding to a question on INEC’s effort on Voters Enlightenment he said that they have been to all radio stations in the state, they have also received an invitation to visit the Catholic Church for further enlightenment on the collection of PVCs. In addition, he further stressed that INEC in Sokoto State has no fewer than 300 PVCs left, with over 1.9 million cards collected. The Commission intends to move to the Wards level in order to facilitate the easy collection of the remaining PVCs.

Bishop Kukah was accompanied by some of his clergy men and a religious sister, some of who used the opportunity to collect their PVCs. It was an exciting moment amidst members of the public queuing for their PVCs as the Bishop displayed his PVC to the public with smiles on his face.  There was peace and order in the arena as other eligible voters were calmly waiting to collect their PVCs.
