Bishop Kukah ordains five deacons

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah ordained five deacons for service in the Lord's vineyard On Thursday 10th December, 2019.

The Ordinands presented by the Vicar General, Very Rev Fr. Nuhu Iliya are. Abba Amari Stephen, Aloysius Nwoke Chika, Ochekwu John Amali, Nuhu Bulus Bala and Anaedu Stephen Amobi.

The bishop in his homily outlined the role of deacons in the church as not only to serve food as contained in the scriptures but serving the people food of life which is the word of God. According to him priests need to look back at the basic teachings of the church like the corporal works of mercy and that they should continue to preach hope for we are living in a troubled time.

“The service we are called to as priest is a major stepping stone, of which the final step being the diaconate is a service that totally differs from other services the world renders” the bishop said. He equally beckoned on parents not to just absorb their duties to the catechists, or other pious societies even though it is a wonderful thing, but take full responsibility of nurturing their children because of the hostility of the current environment.
