CAN Sokoto; “Prayer Will Not Go To Polls”

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Sokoto state chapter concluded her universal week of prayer yesterday, Sunday 13th January, 2019 at Holy family Catholic Cathedral Sokoto. While speaking at the closing ceremony the catholic bishop of Sokoto Most Rev Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah stressed the need for Christians to exercise their franchise by participating in the forth coming general elections. He said prayer will do its own work, but prayer will not go the polling booth...we are the ones who will vote”. Commenting on the migration of people from different parts of the country, he appealed that Christians should stay in the place God has planted them and defend the country.

The CAN chairman in the state, Rev. Fr. Nuhu Illiya in his remark expressed  joy over the turnout and active participation of Christians in the week’s program. He also noted that the chapter for the first time recorded the highest number of participation from Christians in the state during the prayer week. He went further to congratulate the Catholic Secretariat of Nigerian for emerging as the winners of the trophy for most active bloc in attendance.

However the event featured prayer sessions for Nigeria, song ministrations amongst others.
