The undying love and commitment of the Catholic Church to the growth and improvement of human dignity in the Northern part of Nigeria has been further demonstrated by the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto with the establishment of a new school in Sokoto, Northwest Nigeria.
The euphoria of the performance of three students of Catholic Schools in the zone in the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination is still on. They performed creditably in the JAMB examination, which granted them university admission.
In his commitment to enduring justice and the development of humanity, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Most Reverend Matthew Hassan Kukah has established another school in Sokoto, the capital of the famous Sokoto Caliphate.
The school named St. Bakhita is located at Sabaru on the eastern part of the Sokoto state capital, was commissioned recently by the Most Reverend Matthew Hassan Kukah with a Mass at the school compound in Sabaru. He was in the company of the Chancellor of Sokoto Diocese, Very Reverend Fr. Nuhu Illiya, the Education Secretary of the Diocese, Reverend Fr. Jude Okpanachi, Reverend Fr. Victor Ikwuoge, and Reverend Fr. Dominic Otalike.
The Education Secretary, Fr. Jude Okpanachi said every Catholic school is a place of Jesus Christ and cultivates the values for the growth of mankind and friendship. He further said that Bakhita School is an institution for passing knowledge and skills as well as the heart for compassion, humility, patience, and meekness, the values that unite humanity positively.
Children who pass through the school will also grow in the virtues of forbearance, forgiveness, and love. The goal of Catholic education is to raise children to be good members of families and society by developing their gifts and also appreciating the gifts of others.
The first two children for creche were lucky to have the Bishop Most Reverend Kukah feed them. Typical of Catholic schools, children of all faiths are welcome to the quality education and character formation.
