KSM Sokoto Sub-Council Plays Host to the Kaduna Metropolitan Council

Thursday evening 31st May, 2018 saw Sokoto Metropolis enveloped by dense sand-laden cloud .The sparse shrubs and trees dotting the Sokoto landscape were shaken to their roots by the attendant scary wind. Roofs shook! The not -quite strong gave way. Human and vehicular traffic stood still. Then,  opened the heavens blessing the thirsty landscape with rainfall. The night , though, dusty was cool and element.

Then came Friday, 1st June, 2018 the weather was very welcoming. It was in this very friendly setting that the Sub-Council of Sokoto of the Order of Knights of St Mulumba received their guests to the 82nd Regular Meeting of the Kaduna Metropolitan Council.  Nature itself bid our guests welcome.

Holy Mass was celebrated 6.00pm that evening at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Old Airport. The Metro Chaplain, Very Rev Fr Andrew Dodo was the Chief Celebrant. With him were the Diocesan Chaplain , Rev Fr Kelvin Obineche and the Parish Priest Rev Fr John Izuala. In his homily, the Diocesan Chaplain reminded the Congregation of their call to discipleship of Christ. That this call, though comes with a cost , is not one of fruitless christianity rather one of fruitfulness. He pointed to St Justin, whose memorial the Church celebrated on that date, that discipleship cost him his life. Unforgiveness, he said to the Congregation, is a hindrance to spiritual growth. He ended his homily with an admonition taken from the Beatitudes, " blessed are the merciful for they shall be shown mercy ".

After the evening Mass, the Metropolitan Grand Knight, Bro Patrick Elisha Tokan accompanied by the Sub-Council Grand Knight, Bro Ibeh Evarist led the Metro Officers on a courtesy  visit to the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Most Rev Matthew Hassan Kukah. Also in attendance were the Metro Chaplain,Very Rev Fr. Nuhu Iliya,  the Diocesian Chaplain  Rev Fr. Kelvin Obineche,  the Diocesian Chancellor, Rev Fr. Cornelius Tagwai, the Diocesian Communication  Director, Rev Fr. Christopher Omotosho, Secretary to the Bishop, Sr Celestina Akpan and Sr Amara.

In his welcome speech, the Bishop comvassed very insightful and innovative ideas on matters that border on evangelisation, the place of the Catholic Church in the socio-political re-enqiueering of our nation,  family life and the centrality of God in all of these. He urged the Knights to get more actively involved in the socio-political activities of our nation. Characteristics of him, he was an untiring delight to listen to. He reiterated the enormous role of the Knights in the accomplishment of the work of the Church. Continuing, he advised that for proper understanding of the Knights and their role in the Church and society, they must engage more regular segments of society outside of itself. The Bishop, as well, initimated his visions with some of the challenges confronting the Diocese.

Responding, the MGK, Bro Patrick Tokan expressed gratitude to his Lordship for finding time to receive them in spite of just returning  from overseas trip same evening.
