KUKAH COMMISSIONED FOURTEEN MINISTERS

It was another remarkable day in the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Northwest Nigeria with the commissioning of 14 catechists who have just been graduated at the Catechetical Training Centre, Malumfashi, Katsina State.

The ceremony was performed by the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Most Reverend Matthew Hassan Kukah during the Mass to mark the end of graduation of the Catechists who had been in training for two years.

In a homily during the Mass, Rev. Fr. Dr. Gerald Musa, a Lecturer at the Catholic Institute of West Africa, CIWA, Port Harcourt, said every individual is called into the ministry of evangelization by the Holy Spirit in different ways.

He recalled that the same was Jesus was passing by the Sea of Galilea and called Simon and his brother Andrew from fishing to become his disciples and they left everything to follow him, is the way the new Catechists have been chosen to follow Jesus by giving up earthly pleasure to follow Jesus today.

“For you to be a good leader in the church you must be dedicated to the service of God and be convinced that it is God that called you to serve in his vineyard and not man”, he said.

Dr. Gerald Musa further said: “For you to be a good leader you must be above reproach and you must be faithful to your wife because if as a leader you can't manage your family, there is no way you can manage the church of God”.

Certificates were issued to the Commissioned catechists. The Prefect of the graduating set 2018/2019, Mr. Simon thanked the formators who made them what they are today and also appreciated Bishop Kukah for his fatherly love and support.

As part of the Bishop’s visit to Malumfashi, he also commissioned the new refectory built at the Catechetical Training Centre.
