SOKOTO HOSTS DIOCESAN YOUTH CONVENTION

The Catholic Diocese of Sokoto for the first time hosted a three Days Diocesan Youth Day Convention with the Theme: (A Tool for God’s Work Luke 1:38) which lasted for three days. The arrival of delegates across the diocese (Kebbi, Zamfara, Katsina and Sokoto) was on the 15th of August, 2019.

The opening mass for the convention was celebrated by his Lordship Most Rev. Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah on the Friday, 16th August, 2019 at the holy family Cathedral Bello Way, Sokoto. The convention recorded a total number of over 400 registered delegates.

Highlights of the events featured talks, one of which was delivered by Rev. Fr. Celestine Katung on the theme Youth a tool for Evangelization and Nation Building. As part of the activities slated, youth represented various cultures through Nigeria’s indigenous dance, music and local dishes presentation during the cultural carnival which was aimed at integration and appreciation of the diversification of Nigeria’s Ethnic orientation.

However Bishop Kukah in an interactive session with delegates on Youth Participation in Nigerian politics, said ‟Politics is like water, we cannot do without it, it is everywhere we turn, and it depends on whether we use it or drown in it. If we do not participate in the management of our own resources, others will decide on our behalf…”

He called on all youths to note that Politics is a vocation, learn to serve or volunteer and not be a foreigner to their communities.
