Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah has challenged Catholics to take seriously the act of fasting for the forgiveness of sins. he made the call in a homily at the Ash Wednesday Mass at Holy Family Catholic Cathedral Sokoto.
The Pontifical Mission Society (PMS) consisting of the 4 societies- Propagation for Faith (POF), Holy childhood Association (HCA), Pontifical Missionary Union (PMU) and St Peter the Apostle (SPA) is an arm of the church managed and charged by the papacy for the direct evangelization of the gospel in the Universal Catholic Church.
The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese His Lordship Most Rev Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah ordained three priests: Rev Fr. Mokwe Joseph Nnamdi, Rev Fr, Ajibo Festus Okechukwu and Rev Fr. Omotosho Christopher Adewale at the Holy Family Cathedral Ahmadu Bello way, Sokoto state on 8th December, 2017.

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah blessed and opened the new parish house in St. Theresa Catholic Church Funtua, Katsina state yesterday. The Parish Priest: Rev. Fr. Basil Okezie expressed his gratitude and appreciated the bishop for coming.
The Igbo socio-cultural group (Ohaneze Ndigbo) paid a courtesy visit to the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto in his office- St. Bakhita Catholic Secretariat today.
Chief Dr. John Nnia Nwodo, the President General of the Ohaneze Ndigbo said that the visit was to express their resolve for Peace and unity in Nigeria.
The Igbo socio-cultural group who went in numbers expressed their belief in the unity of the country.
The President of the group appreciated the effort of the Bishop in maintaining peace and unity of the Country.
The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Rt. Rev. Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah has consecrated Diocese of Sokoto to the Blessed Virgin Mary as the church concludes Marian Year today.
During the ceremony, Bishop Kukah prayed for Our Lady's intercession for the clergy, the religious and the laity for God's guidance and protection. Included in the prayer of dedication also are other Christians, Muslims and the peoples of Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara and Kebbi states that make up Sokoto Diocese.
Grand Finale eve for the celebration of the 2017 Marian Year in the Diocese started with a Rosary Procession.
Rev Fr. Joseph Ekwoanya on the Eve of the Grand Finale of the Marian year at Holy Family Cathedral, Catholic Diocese of Sokoto while addressing the Catholic Faithfuls said that "The message of Fatima is Simple and yet Profound".
"Fatima apparition is surely the most prophetic apparitions today. The apparition of Fatima closely and critically looked at, possess the characteristics of an authentic private revelation".
Bishop Kukah turned 65 yesterday. His birthday was marked with a celebration at the Bishop's residence in Sokoto.
In attendance was: Vicar general Pastoral and Administration: Rev. Frs. Okafor and Iliya, representative of the religious community and the laity.
Today marks the 65th birthday of the Local Ordinary of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Most Rev. Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah. Bishop Kukah who has served as the Bishop of Sokoto Diocese since 2011 was born on August 31, 1952 in Anchuna, Ikulu Chiefdom in Zangon Kataf local government area of Kaduna State.
The Catholic Diocese of Sokoto wish Bishop Kukah happy 65th birthday and more fruitful years as he serves in the vineyard of God.
