The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Matthew Kukah has urged Christian faithful to be men and women of the gospel that the work of God is not only for the clergy and religious.
This he said during his visit to St. Patrick Catholic Church, Gidan Maikambu for Cathedraticum today.
Bishop Kukah said he came for two reasons: "To celebrate the Eucharist with the Faithful in this deanery and to collect what they have for him which would be put into the diocesan purse after which it would be shared to all the parishes in the Diocese".
Ever before the outbreak of meningitis that has claimed several lives in over 16 states and still counting, the health department of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, headed by REV. Sr. Christiana Umeadi OP(now late) were proactive and had begun their routine immunization against this dreadful disease.
In the last one month Late Sr. Umeadi and her medical team have covered several parts of Sokoto diocese which comprises: Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara and Kebbi. And as the outbreak got worse the health team intensified their effort.

1. Preamble
The Immediate past Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency Peter Obi today visited Holy Family Schools and St. Patrick School in Sokoto State.
The august visitor who was introduced to the schools by Rev Sr. Esther said he is happy to celebrate World Freedom Day with the Children in Sokoto.
Mr Obi said "We have a problem with education. I have always believed that the problem of Nigeria is education that's why i am committed to education."
He encouraged the church to embrace education and health more.
Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal said that both himself and the President General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, (NSCIA) Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar 111 will protest any day Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah is transferred from the Seat of the Caliphate.
Tambuwal. Who premised his position on the immense contributions of the Bishop to state, national and global harmonious peaceful coexistence, added that, they hold Bishop Kukah in high esteem.
