Christians have been challenged to live up to their faith and not allow secular trends douse their commitment to God. This submission was made by the Catholic Archbishop of Calabar, Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Ekuwem at St. George’s Catholic Church, Gliwice-Labedy, when the Parish played host to some Nigerian contingents who participated in the 2016 World Youth Day held in Poland from July 25 - 31, 2016.
While delivering his Sunday homily, the Archbishop bemoaned the fact that, “the Church of Satan has been established in the United States of America” and stressed that, “God is not happy with the world.”
He also noted that “many non-Christian bodies are trooping into Europe” and called on the people of Poland to hold firm to their Christian heritage.
Archbishop Ekuwem also charged the Polish families to “Pray and accept children.” He also called on them to return to their God and stand firm for their faith.”
He also disclosed that “the two important things that made the Pontificate of Saint Pope John Paul II remarkable were, the idea of convoking the World Youth Day Celebration and Opening a Congregation of Women Religious who were responsible for being before the Blessed the Sacrament in Pairs daily and interceding for his Pontificate.” Responding, the Parish Priest of St. George, Fr. Antoni Pleśniak said, they were pleased to host the Nigerian Delegates to the WYD. “It is our pleasure to host you. Your being here has enriched our faith and we pray you have a great World Youth Day Celebration while in Krakow” he noted.
