Catholic Bishop Working Toward Safe Release of Elderly Nigerian Priest Abducted Last Week

The Catholic Bishop of Nigeria’s Sokoto Diocese is spearheading negotiations to secure the safe release of the elderly Nigerian Priest kidnapped last week when gunmen attacked St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church Malunfashi in Katsina State within his episcopal see.

148 Received the Sacrament of Confirmation

One hundred and forty eight Catholic faithful from three parishes, received the Sacrament of Confirmation today at the Holy Family Cathedral, Sokoto.
The Sacrament was administered by the Bishop of the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Most Reverend Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah during the Mass of Pentecost.

The candidates, 84 females and 64 males were from the Holy Family Cathedral, Sokoto, St. Kevin's Parish, Sokoto and St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Illela border town.

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria, led by President Muhammadu Buhari to stop focusing energy, time and resources in any form of propaganda against religious leaders who disagree with his performance.

President of the CBCN and the Catholic Archbishop of Benin City, Most Rev. Augustine Obiora Akubeze made the call in a statement he issued on Thursday, May 6 and titled: “Urgent call to the Federal Government to be open to criticism in Addressing the pervading Insecurity in Nigeria”.

The  Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Reverend Matthew Hassan Kukah has enjoined all Catholics to contribute generously to the collection taken on Good Friday in aid of the poor and maintenance of the holy places.
He said there're many parts of the world where christians  are living their lives on the edge in  the practice of their faith. Many lost their lives and had their places of worship destroyed. To encourage such Christians under threat and pressure for their faith, the Mother Church tries  to help restore their places  of worship.
