AHEAD OF THE CLOSE OF CBCN PLENARY PARISHES IN SOKOTO DIOCESE FETE BISHOPS

At the on-going Conference of the Catholic Bishops of Nigeria, the prelates were sent out in groups to visit some parishes in the Sokoto, Kebbi and Gusau Deaneries to have a feel of the environment where the faithful are living out their faith.

The team of five bishops, two priests, one religious and two lay persons assigned to visit the Holy Family Cathedral was led by the President of the Conference Most Reverend Augustine Akubeze. The team celebrated the Mass with parishioners of the Cathedral Parish and blessed the people at the end of the Mass.

Bishop Peter Odetoyinbo of the Catholic Diocese of Abeokuta preached the homily during which he explained part of the beatitudes of being “poor in the spirit” to mean accepting Jesus wholly into one’s life and that as God, Jesus will fulfill His promise of blessings to the faithful. The other three bishops are Hillary Okeke of Nnewi, Camillus Etukudoh of Portharcourt, and Bulus Yohana of Kontagora diocese.

The Parishioners later treated the Bishops to a reception during which a carnival of cultural dances by different groups featured.
